Gipuzkoa is eager for cider. In fact, several cider houses in the province have already opened their doors to customers, but it is this week that the new ‘Txotx 2024’ season officially opens. The opening ceremony will take place today, Tuesday 16 January. It starts at 12:00 in Astigarraga and this year has a new venue: Erribera Kulturgunea.
Dolarea, the Navarre cider makers’ association, presented in Lekunberri a season of some 150,000 litres, made mostly from local apples, with Saturdays in February and March almost fully booked
The Beasain-born forensic doctor, named ambassador of Goierri cider, called the first txotx in Zerain on the day the district’s four cider houses opened; this year they have made 125,000 litres from local apples
