The towns of Astigarraga and Hernani have launched a campaign with the message “You’re in our home: look after it” to encourage respect and responsibility among visitors during the txotx season. This period, which runs from January to March, has caused concern because of overcrowding and antisocial behaviour, especially on Saturdays, when large numbers of coaches arrive. The councils want to reduce the impact and are even considering limiting access for large groups. A protocol against sexist attacks has also been activated to ensure a safe environment. In the long term, work is under way to make cider culture less seasonal, promoting its enjoyment all year round and not only in the txotx months.
