Autumn is the time to pick apples for cider making, and also when the Navarre Sagardo Eguna is held, an event that has taken place in Lekunberri for 18 years and that not even the pandemic could stop. Cider will share the spotlight with mushrooms and fungi on a packed Sunday morning.
As usual, visitors will be able to taste the best cider made in Navarre with the tried-and-tested formula: buying a glass for 4 euros gets you tastings of the ciders from Martitxonea, in Aldatz; Larraldea, in Lekaroz; Lindurren borda, in Lesaka; Toki Alai, in Lekunberri; and Perkatzenea, in Madotz. These five cider houses belong to the Asociación de Productores de Sidra de Navarra (Navarre cider makers’ association), which organises the event together with Lekunberri Town Council. To go with the cider there will be talos, local cheeses and artisan bread, among other foods, as well as crafts at the fair that accompanies the cider festival.
