Dozens of locals and visitors from all over Asturias attended Gozón’s first Homemade Cider Competition, in which 22 local cider makers took part. The event was held in Parque Zapardel in Luanco and enjoyed good weather all day. “The commemorative glass for this edition cost 5 euros. The cider was free, so those who came to the tasting only had to buy the glass,” explained Gozón Town Council’s councillor for festivities, Daniel Fernández. He recalled that it was the Asociación de Sidra Casera de Gozón (Gozón homemade cider association) that suggested organising the competition, which the council was delighted to agree to in order to support the municipality’s cider makers.

“There are people in the town who have always worked with cider and have been entering other competitions in other municipalities for many years, even at regional level. So we decided to get involved as a council and hold our own first competition, with the idea that it will continue over time,” the councillor said. He added that “it is very important that our cider makers feel supported by the council”.
