This international cider competition brings together more than 100 producers from 17 countries and is a meeting place to discover other cider cultures from around the world and to showcase our sagardogintza (cider-making tradition) and our products. This year we again entered some of our most special creations, such as the sparkling natural cider Aparduna Reserva and the single-variety Alai, both with the Euskal Sagardoa Designation of Origin.
Petritegi Aparduna Reserva
This cider is made using the traditional method of secondary fermentation in the bottle. During this process the cider develops its characteristic bubbles, and after at least 18 months of ageing, stacked in rows in the Petritegi tunnel, the sparkling cider takes on the nuances that set it apart: fruity aromas with hints of toast and a lovely balance between the acidity and freshness of the cider apples it is made from. A gourmet drink for celebrating life’s most special moments.
Petritegi Alai
The single-variety Alai (“cheerful” in Basque), for its part, is made exclusively from the native Txalaka variety, a greenish-yellow, tart and very juicy apple. The result is a drink that conveys the essence of the variety: a pleasant sensation of freshness and fruit, like the joy of biting into a tart apple in the Petritegi orchard.
