Petritegi, the historic Astigarraga cider house that has been making cider for more than 500 years, has managed to combine tradition with modernity, establishing itself as an international benchmark. In 2024 the Gipuzkoa family business produced a million litres of cider, 80% of it under the Euskal Sagardoa Designation of Origin (DO), and it is now taking its expansion a step further by bringing its products to China. Led by Ainara Otaño and her nephew Argoitz Otaño, the company has pursued a policy of constant innovation, committing to sustainability and diversifying its output with organic, high-quality products.
As well as expanding internationally, Petritegi has opened a new culinary concept, the world’s first Sagar Bar. The space aims to offer a unique experience in which visitors can enjoy cider at its finest, alongside quality dishes. The cider house has also invested in sustainability, installing solar panels and electric vehicle charging points, and was the first to obtain the “Queer Destinations Committed” seal. Its organic cider production, together with other initiatives, reinforces its commitment to the environment and to inclusion.
With a varied range that includes natural and sparkling ciders and innovative products such as cider vermouth, Petritegi remains committed to quality. Its ciders have won recognition at national and international competitions, such as the 2024 Sisga International Competition, where its sparkling cider La Petri was named best in its category. This constant pursuit of excellence has not only strengthened its reputation in the Basque Country but has also enabled Petritegi to become a global benchmark in the world of cider.
