Under the slogan “Respect for the visitor”, the two inland Gipuzkoa towns are calling for adaptation to the new realities of tourism, arguing that the current Saturday-centred model is proving unsustainable.

The txotx, a tradition that attracts thousands of tourists every year, has become one of the main activities of the season. However, the mayors of both towns warn that this format cannot cope with growing demand, which leads to overcrowding and spoils the visitor experience.

They also propose moving ahead with measures to make the season less seasonal, spreading the activity throughout the year and diversifying what is on offer for tourists. The aim is to balance visitor numbers and ensure that the tradition remains sustainable for residents and tourists alike.
