These guidelines apply to everything you publish on sidrerias.ws with your account: your username and your name, your photo or avatar, what you say in your profile, and the reviews, comments and replies you write. They form part of the Terms of use, and how we process your data is explained in the Privacy policy.
The idea fits in one sentence: write as you would speak in the cider house, among people you don’t know, in front of the people who run the place.
Your identity: username and name
Your username is your name in the community and the address of your profile
(/en/community/your-username). It is unique and cannot be changed once
saved. Your name is optional and need not be unique.
A username or name is not allowed if it:
- Impersonates another person or organisation: a real person other than you, a cider house, cider maker, winery, brand or association, or the sidrerias.ws team. The names of the cider houses and cider makers in the directory are reserved for them, and usernames that sound official (administration, moderation, editorial team…) cannot be chosen.
- Is insulting, obscene, violent or discriminatory, or glorifies hatred, even with letters swapped for numbers.
- Serves as advertising: a website, a telephone number, a trade mark or a promotion.
- Contains personal data, yours or anyone else’s, that you would not want known: a telephone number, an email address or a home address.
If your username breaks these guidelines, we will remove it and you will have to choose another. If you believe someone is using a username that impersonates you, report it (we explain how below, in “How to report”).
Your photo or avatar
You can upload a photo or choose one of our avatars. The photo you upload:
- Must be yours or one you have permission to use. Do not upload photos of other people without their consent, or of identifiable minors.
- Must not be sexual, violent, offensive or discriminatory, or show drugs or dangerous behaviour.
- Must not use the logo or image of a cider house, cider maker or brand to pass yourself off as them.
- Must not be advertising: no QR codes, telephone numbers or web addresses.
We keep a small, square copy of the photo, without its hidden data (neither the location nor the device it was taken with). We remove it if it breaks these guidelines, and it stops being shown as soon as you delete your account.
Your profile
Your profile is private until you decide to make it public. When it is public, anyone can see what you have written in it, but never your email address, and search engines do not index it. What you write in it (about yourself, your town, your links) follows the same guidelines as everything else: no advertising, no insults and no data about other people.
Reviews and comments
Reviews are there to help other people choose well. That is why we ask you to:
- Describe your own experience, and a recent one. If you haven’t been, don’t review. Say when you went: a cider house can change from one season to the next.
- One review per cider house per season. If you go back, you can update it.
- Be specific and fair. The menu, the cider, the service, the atmosphere, the price: what you liked and what you didn’t, respectfully. Harsh criticism can be useful; an insult, never.
- Keep facts and opinions apart. “The steak was cold” is a valid opinion; accusing someone of a crime is not. If you have a serious problem (food poisoning, an unjustified charge), go to the consumer or health authorities: a review is not the place.
- Leave people out of it. Do not publish the names, photos or features of staff, other customers or anyone who is not a public figure.
- No conflicts of interest. Do not review your own cider house, your family’s or a competitor’s, or in exchange for anything: discounts, free meals or gifts. If an establishment offers you something to write a review or to change it, tell us.
- No advertising or links, no text copied from other websites and no chains of repeated messages.
- Write in the language you prefer: Spanish, Basque, English or French.
How we handle reviews
We are transparent about how they work, as consumer law requires:
- Only people with a confirmed account on sidrerias.ws can write reviews. We do not copy reviews from other websites or buy them.
- We cannot check that each person has actually been to the cider house. That is why we watch for signs of fake reviews (many at once, from the same accounts, or from newly created accounts) and remove those that are fake.
- We publish all reviews that meet these guidelines, good and bad. We do not remove a review because it is negative, because the cider house asks us to, or in exchange for money. Cider houses’ paid plans buy visibility in the directory, never reviews or ratings.
- Reviews go through automatic filters (links, banned words) and, when necessary, a review by our team before or after they are published.
- We sort them from newest to oldest. A cider house’s average rating is calculated from all its published reviews.
Replies from cider houses
Verified cider houses and cider makers (we have checked that the account holder runs the business) see the reviews they receive in their professional area and can reply to each one on behalf of the establishment. Their replies carry the name of the cider house and the official reply mark: that way you know it is the house answering and not someone pretending to be it.
Whoever replies for a cider house also follows these guidelines and, in addition:
- Replies respectfully, even if the review is unfair. Clarify, explain, thank or apologise: that is what works best.
- Does not publish data about the person who wrote the review (their real name, their booking, their telephone number, what they ordered according to their receipt), and does not threaten them or pressure them to change their review.
- Does not offer compensation in the reply in exchange for removing or changing a review, and does not use it for advertising.
- A cider house cannot delete or edit reviews, or review itself or others. If a review breaks these guidelines, it can report it like anyone else (see “How to report”), and we review it in the same way as any other.
If a professional account breaks these guidelines, we may remove its replies and take away its ability to reply or its verification.
What we do if someone breaks the guidelines
Depending on how serious it is and whether it happens again, we may:
- Remove the content: the review, the reply, the photo, the profile text or the username.
- Restrict the account: so that its reviews are checked before they are published, or so that it cannot publish for a period of time.
- Block the account, in serious or repeated cases: impersonation, fake reviews, threats, illegal content or spam.
When we remove something of yours or restrict your account, we will tell you by email, with the reason and the guideline breached, unless it is obvious spam or telling you could hinder an investigation. If you disagree, reply to that email within the following six months: another member of the team will review it and we will get back to you. If we still disagree, you can go to the courts.
We will report content that may constitute a criminal offence to the authorities when the law requires us to.
How to report
If you see content that breaks these guidelines or that you believe is illegal (a review, a reply, a comment, a photo, a username or a profile), let us know with the “Report” button next to every review, reply, comment and public profile:
- With your account you can report it for any reason: it is fake or offensive, it publishes people’s personal data, it is advertising, it impersonates someone, it is illegal, or something else.
- Without an account you can notify us of illegal content (defamation, copyright or image rights, a crime…): tell us why and leave us your name and email address so that we can reply to you.
- You can also write to info@sidrerias.ws, with the link to the content, which guideline or which law you believe it breaches and why, and your name and email address.
We ask for an account for all other reports, and we limit how many can be sent, so that the button cannot be used to harass anyone or to flood us with false reports. When you send it we confirm on screen that we have received it; a member of our team reviews it diligently and we email you what we have decided. We never tell anyone who made a report. If the content infringes your copyright or your image rights, say so too: we will remove it as soon as we have checked.
What you publish is yours
You are the author of what you write and of the photos you upload. By publishing them you give us permission, free of charge and on a non-exclusive basis, to show them on sidrerias.ws, in all its languages, for as long as they remain published. We do not sell them or use them in advertising.
You can delete what you have published at any time. If you delete your account, everything you published is deleted with it; cider houses’ replies to your reviews disappear too.
Age
You must be 14 or over to have an account on sidrerias.ws. And remember that cider is an alcoholic drink: in reviews, do not encourage minors to drink or glorify excessive drinking.
Changes to these guidelines
We may update these guidelines when the community needs it or the law changes. The date of the last update is shown at the top. If the change is significant, we will let you know by email.
