About Ayoberri cider house
In 1937, during the Spanish Civil War, José Otegui Aramburu and Perpetua Ayo built a baserri (a traditional Basque farmhouse) and named it Ayoberri. At that time the farmhouse had vines and cider apple trees, which were used to make cider and txakoli (Basque white wine) for the family’s own use and for some of the farmhouses in the area. In 1994 the Ayo family decided to convert the farmhouse into a traditional Basque cider house restaurant (sagardotegi). Today Ayoberri cider house serves the classic cider house menus, with Ayoberri-style salt cod and chargrilled T-bone steak (txuleta) as its specialities.
