About Ola cider house

Ola cider house is in a very special setting: an old ore-washing plant later turned into a mill, which the Bengoetxea family restored and adapted for cider making in 1999. It has an orchard of some 6 hectares with around 1,100 trees. It produces about 75,000 litres of cider a year.

Ola makes organic cider with the Euskal Sagardoa DO, mainly from apples grown in its own orchards, as well as apple juice. It runs guided tours and tastings and sells its products in its online shop.

Quality labels

  • DO Euskal Sagardoa Designation of origin for natural Basque cider: only apples of local varieties grown in Álava, Bizkaia, Gipuzkoa and the French Basque Country. The seal goes on each bottle, not on the cider maker.
  • Organic production Cider certified as organic by the body in its territory: Ekolurra, CPAEN, COPAE, CRAEGA or AB in the French Basque Country.
  • Eusko Label Basque Government quality label for agri-food products made in the Basque Country under a monitored set of specifications.
