About Urbitarte cider house
Off the traditional cider route, the Urbitarte cider house was founded in 1991 in Ataun. Located in the Ergoiena district, it welcomes large numbers of visitors from neighbouring Navarre, to which it has a direct road link. It stands in mountain country and, braving the ups and downs of winter, stays open until almost the end of spring so that people can make the most of their visit. It currently produces around 150,000 litres of cider a year.
Urbitarte makes its cider under the Euskal Sagardoa Designation of Origin (DO) with apples from the Goierri area, and has been a pioneer of special ciders such as single-variety ones.
Specialities
The Urbitarte cider house’s speciality is the grill.
Grilled steaks and fish with Demetrio Terradillos’s special touch, and the salt cod chunks prepared by Itziar Irastorza, are some of the dishes that define the quality of its cooking.

As well as a cider house, it’s a cider maker: it makes its own cider, and what’s served at the table comes from its own cellar.

Quality labels
- DO Euskal Sagardoa Designation of origin for natural Basque cider: only apples of local varieties grown in Álava, Bizkaia, Gipuzkoa and the French Basque Country. The seal goes on each bottle, not on the cider maker.
