About Sidra JR
Sidra JR is a family-run llagar (cider mill) at Alto del Infanzón, in the Gijón parish of Cabueñes. Its origins go back to around 1910, when Aquilino Rodríguez acquired a llagar and some barrels to make cider for home consumption; it was so well received that he began to sell it. Today the business is run by Juan José Tomás Pidal, who worked from a young age with the third generation of the founding family.
The llagar has a capacity of about 500,000 litres, with pneumatic presses, wooden barrels and steel and fibreglass tanks. It makes traditional JR natural cider, JR Etiqueta Negra under the Sidra de Asturias Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) and other ciders.
It runs guided tours, booked in advance online: the tour starts in the apple orchard next to the llagar, continues through the premises and ends with a tasting of cider drawn straight from the tanks, with a complimentary glass. There is a shop at the llagar itself. It belongs to the Sidraturismo Asturias club and is part of Gijón’s cider tourism offer.

Look up the address in your satnav. In season, cider house car parks fill up early on Saturdays.
