About Val do Traba
Val do Traba is a family business in Noia (A Coruña) that makes natural cider by traditional methods from native Galician apples. Its orchards, planted from 2008 onwards at O Couto, beside the River Traba, hold more than thirty cider apple varieties, including Raxao, Príncipe, Rabiosa, Marafonsa, Ollo Mouro and Regona. Next to the cider mill they have a workshop making quince and apple sweets.
The cider mill has separate areas for receiving and washing the apples, pressing, first fermentation, resting in barrels and bottling, and much of this work is done by hand. As well as natural cider they produce perry, cider vermouth and cider sangria, cider with honey and ice cider.
Visits must be booked at least 72 hours in advance. Between April and September they take in the orchard and vegetable garden, the cider mill and the workshop, and end with a guided tasting; in October and November visitors can join in the apple harvest. After the visit you can eat at the sidrería, with several set menus prepared in collaboration with A Cociña de Pepe. Noia holds its Cider Festival in August.
