What it is like

At Altzueta the visit begins in the cellar, with a guided tour of the place where the house cider is made, and continues with a tasting served with an aperitif. Then it is time to sit down to the traditional cider house menu: salt cod omelette, fried salt cod with green peppers, grilled txuleta (rib steak) and cheese with quince paste and walnuts, with bread, cider and coffee. About three hours in all.

It runs on Saturdays at 12:30, from January to August (other times subject to availability), in Basque, Spanish, English or French. It costs €65.50 per adult (€61 for ages 14 to 17 and €35 for ages 4 to 13). The website also offers an option with transport, lasting about four hours, for €83. Payment is made when booking, and cancellation is free up to 72 hours before.
