History and atmosphere

About Etxeberria cider house

Etxeberria cider house, founded in 1975 by the current owner’s father, has been remodelled many times over the years. The facilities have been adapted and extended as needs arose, with new technology, new installations and so on. The cider house sits in a spot that stands out not only for its beauty but also as one of Astigarraga’s cider-making areas. Home-grown apples supply 10–20% of its cider production. It currently produces around 150,000 litres of cider a year.

Etxeberria has been bottling cider since 1970 and makes three Euskal Sagardoa ciders with Designation of Origin: the standard one, the Premium and the organic, with apples from its own orchards.

Quality labels

  • DO Euskal Sagardoa Designation of origin for natural Basque cider: only apples of local varieties grown in Álava, Bizkaia, Gipuzkoa and the French Basque Country. The seal goes on each bottle, not on the cider maker.
  • Organic production Cider certified as organic by the body in its territory: Ekolurra, CPAEN, COPAE, CRAEGA or AB in the French Basque Country.
