About Astarbe cider house

A historic cider house dating from the 16th century. The earliest records go back to 1563. Successive generations have adapted to changing times through new technology. The result today is a natural cider of great purity, flavour and colour. Astarbe cider holds the Eusko Label quality certification.

Specialities

Fried salt cod with onions and peppers

The Astarbe family has been making cider at the Mendiola farmhouse since 1563. Today it bottles natural cider under the Euskal Sagardoa Designation of Origin (DO) and sparkling ciders, which it sells in its online shop, and it runs guided tours of the cider house.

As well as a cider house, it’s a cider maker: it makes its own cider, and what’s served at the table comes from its own cellar.

Quality labels

  • DO Euskal Sagardoa Designation of origin for natural Basque cider: only apples of local varieties grown in Álava, Bizkaia, Gipuzkoa and the French Basque Country. The seal goes on each bottle, not on the cider maker.
