About Zabala cider house
With some 200 years of cider-making tradition behind it, the Zabala cider house stands out for its owners’ efforts to make cider exclusively from local apples. Although this is often an impossible task, in the 2002-2003 season they achieved their goal of making their ciders with 100% local apples. They produce around 200,000 litres of cider a year.
Zabala sells its cider as R. Zabala, under the Euskal Sagardoa Designation of Origin (DO), made almost entirely from apples grown in its own orchards in Aduna. It also makes hopped cider and sells through its online shop.
From tree to bottle
Zabala’s own house cider
As well as a cider house, it’s a cider maker: it makes its own cider, and what’s served at the table comes from its own cellar.
