About Sidra Piñera
Sidra Piñera is a family-run llagar (cider mill) in Deva, in rural Gijón, now in its fourth generation. Enemesio Piñera founded it in the early 20th century, and it was his son José who, in 1940, began selling the cider under the current brand; later his grandson Luis and his great-grandchildren took over.
The llagar has a capacity of about 500,000 litres and combines traditional round presses and a pneumatic press with wooden barrels and steel and fibreglass tanks. The family grows more than 20,000 m² of its own orchards. It makes Piñera natural cider, with and without the Sidra de Asturias Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), and Llosa Serantes DOP.
It offers guided tours, booking required, which explain how natural cider is made and include a tasting from two barrels, one of them PDO; visitors can draw the cider from the barrel themselves. For groups there is an option that pairs the cider with tinned delicacies (conservas). It sells cider at the llagar and in its online shop, and hosts small espichas (traditional gatherings where cider is drawn from the barrel), booking required.
