History and atmosphere

About Sidra Somarroza

Somarroza is a family business in Renedo de Piélagos that makes cider in Cantabria. The project began in 1998, when Jesús Gómez Solórzano planted the Somarroza estate and started making cider for his own use; in 2010 the family brought out their first natural cider with health registration, at a time when no brand of cider made in the region was on the market. Today the founder and his daughters Lucía and Cecilia work in the business, the latter in charge of cider making and quality control.

The apples come from their own estates: Somarroza, registered for organic farming, where sheep, hens and turkeys graze among the apple trees, and La Turbera, planted in 2015 with native Cantabrian varieties. In 2017 they opened a new cider mill next to the estate. The range includes eleven ciders, among them natural cider, organic natural cider, sweet and dry sparkling ciders, Capricho (a cider to be served in a glass), Rubí (made from red-fleshed apples), Bíter Bio and the La Sidruca small bottles, one of them with lemon from Novales; a natural apple juice and an organic apple vinegar complete the catalogue. Their ciders have won awards at competitions such as CiderWorld in Frankfurt, Sagardo Forum in San Sebastián and the 2025 World Cider Awards.

Sales are through the online shop on their website, with delivery to mainland Spain included, and by phone or WhatsApp. The website does not offer visits to the cider mill.
