About Sidra Viuda de Angelón
Sidra Viuda de Angelón is a family llagar (cider mill) in Nava, the capital of the Comarca de la Sidra (Cider Region). It was founded by Alfredo Ordóñez Onís in 1947 on the Alameda estates; his mother, Carmen, ran a well-known cider bar in the town, Casa Angelón, and that, together with the memory of his father, gave the first cider its name. In the late 1970s the llagar moved to La Teyera, its current site, and since 1967 there have also been the Villa premises, where the rest of its ciders are made.
With a capacity of around 1.5 million litres, it combines pneumatic presses, wooden barrels and steel tanks, and keeps an area of old equipment as a kind of museum. Its Monga and Tresali estates have been certified by the Sidra de Asturias Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) since 2004 and produce the Prau Monga cider, and its orchards have been farmed organically since 2021. Besides natural cider, it makes sparkling ciders, table ciders such as Angelón 1947, ice cider, cider with honey and alcohol-free cider, which have won several awards at the Festival de la Sidra de Nava and the Preba de Gascona.
By prior booking it runs guided tours of the cellar, the bottling area and the press, with cider drawn straight from the barrel and a final tasting of several products with an Asturian aperitif. It has a physical shop, open Monday to Friday, and an online shop.
