History and atmosphere

About Sidra Orizón

Sidra Orizón is a family-run llagar (cider mill) in the village of Orizón, in Nava. It dates back to 1910, when Emilio González Díaz and Josefina Fernández settled there with a small llagar that shared a building with a village shop-cum-bar and a stable. In the 1980s refrigeration, fibreglass tanks and stainless steel were brought in, and today it is run by the founder’s great-grandchildren, who have renovated the premises.

It makes natural cider and ferments around 60% of its output in chestnut barrels, some of them holding up to 14 tonnes, alongside stainless steel tanks. It sells two natural ciders: Orizón, with apples such as reineta roja, encarnada, chaparrón and pumarón, and Novalín, with prieta and durona de Tresali among others; both are 6% ABV. Its website lists awards won at the Festival de la Sidra de Nava and other competitions.

It is among the producers certified by the Sidra de Asturias Protected Designation of Origin (PDO). Orders (minimum one case) and visits are arranged by phone.
