About Mendizabal cider house
Founded in 1969 by its current owner, Juan Mendizábal, this cider house has lived through technological change first-hand. Although they still make cider in the most traditional way, there have been plenty of changes to the machinery and facilities. Mendizábal cider house gets most of its apples from its own trees.
Mendizabal still makes its cider with its own apples: in 2023 it was fermenting around 80,000 litres a year in twelve fibreglass barrels, and it has set up two tables in the kupeltegi (cask room) so you can eat right beside them. Today it presents itself mainly as a grill restaurant, with an à la carte menu, a cider house menu, a vegetarian menu and weddings.
Specialities
À la carte menu all year round, in addition to the classic txotx menu.
From tree to bottle
Mendizabal’s own house cider
As well as a cider house, it’s a cider maker: it makes its own cider, and what’s served at the table comes from its own cellar.
