About Casa Trabanco
Casa Trabanco opened in 1983 in Lavandera, in rural Gijón, at almost the same time as the Trabanco family began selling the cider from its llagar (cider mill), founded by Emilio Trabanco in 1925. Its founders, Samuel Trabanco and Toñi Olmo, took their inspiration from the Basque cider houses that were then pairing cider with chargrilled meat and fish; today the house is run by their daughter Yolanda.
The main dining room keeps the shared tables of the Asturian chigre (traditional cider tavern), with a bar for drinking cider poured from height, and there is also a covered terrace overlooking the Lavandera valley and another in the open air. Highlights on the menu include salt cod, desalted in their own kitchen, traditional stews, chargrilled T-bone steak and cachopos (breaded veal stuffed with ham and cheese). It opens every day.
As well as the cider bar, the family has several llagares for espichas (traditional cider gatherings with food), group meals, events and ceremonies, including El Túnel, a cellar set in a former railway tunnel. Sidra Trabanco runs guided tours of the family llagar and cellar, with a short course in pouring cider and a tasting of cider from the barrel.
It is a member of the “Sidrerías de Asturias, Calidad Natural” brand.
