About Sidra Crespo
Sidra Crespo is a family-run llagar (cider mill) in Sales, in the municipality of Colunga, at the foot of the Sueve. It has been making cider since 1945 and is now run by the fourth generation. It works in a largely traditional, hand-crafted way, with apples from its own harvest or from orchards in eastern Asturias, and as well as Crespo natural cider it sells the Sueve brand.
The llagar is open to visitors: the whole process is explained, from the arrival and washing of the apples to bottling, and at the end visitors draw cider straight from the wooden barrels. Entry and tasting are free. According to Comarca de la Sidra, from 1 July to 15 September it opens every day, mornings and afternoons; the rest of the year you need to make an appointment.
The premises include a bar, a converted old cowshed and a shop selling Asturian products, and the llagar hosts espichas (traditional gatherings where cider is drawn from the barrel) for groups among its barrels.
