About Sidra Fran
Sidra Fran is a llagar (cider mill) in Lugones (municipality of Siero), founded in 1918 by Francisco Villanueva, “Fran”, on his return from Cuba. After his death in 1944 it was run by his wife, Aurora del Valle, and later by the Ramos del Valle family, who give their name to the house’s Designation of Origin ciders. It is a llagar certified by the Sidra de Asturias Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) and is listed among the llagares of Turismo Asturias and Sidraturismo Asturias.
The llagar has more than forty tanks, in chestnut wood, fibreglass and steel, with capacity for around one million litres. It makes Fran natural cider and, under the PDO, Ramos del Valle natural cider and the sparkling Brut and Brut Nature.
At the llagar itself is the cider bar (sidrería) “Casa Fran”, with a menu of sharing plates, cured meats, omelettes and fried fish, and a shop selling the house ciders to private customers.

Look up the address in your satnav. In season, cider house car parks fill up early on Saturdays.
