History and atmosphere

About Sidra El Gaitero

Sidra El Gaitero is the brand of Valle, Ballina y Fernández, a cider company based in Villaviciosa since the late 19th century and one of the best known in Asturias. Its premises at La Espuncia, on the banks of the estuary, bring together apple reception, presses, cellars and a bottling line.

The guided tour, which lasts about an hour and a half and must be booked in advance, takes in the cellar and the El Gaitero Permanent Collection, housed in the former management building dating from 1890. Its three floors cover the origins of champagne-style cider and of the founding family, the history of the brand’s exports and advertising, and an audiovisual presentation with excerpts from the film “Bellezas de Asturias”, shot in 1919 and 1920. The tour ends with a cider tasting.

Admission costs 5 euros, redeemable in the shop after the tour, and is free for accompanied children under 14. Capacity is 30 people and times vary with the season; part of the tour is outdoors and animals are not allowed.
