About Sidrería Solleiro
Solleiro is a llagar (cider mill) with a cider bar (sidrería) in the village of Taramundi, in western Asturias, run by José Antonio Lorido Lombardero, a producer registered with the Sidra de Asturias Protected Designation of Origin (PDO). The family grows its own five-hectare plantation with twenty-four Asturian apple varieties and has made cider every autumn since 1993.
The apples are crushed and pressed, and the must ferments for about four months in fibreglass and stainless steel tanks of between 8,000 and 18,000 litres, with total output that the house puts at around 200,000 litres. The cider is bottled throughout the year according to demand and can be bought to take away in a two-bottle box with a glass or in cases of six and twelve bottles. In 2015 it was a finalist in the Gijón cider competition.
The cider bar occupies a stone building with a hórreo (raised granary) and a terrace, and serves sharing plates of Asturian food, with cheeses from Taramundi and Cabrales, fabes (Asturian white beans) and cured meats. It opens during Holy Week and every day in July and August, with other dates on request; it does not take table bookings.
