About Barkaiztegi cider house
Located in the Martutene neighbourhood of San Sebastián, Barkaiztegi cider house began making craft cider in the 17th century. Numerous written references from the period make it clear that bottled cider was already being sold, although it was not until our own time that this long-established cider house expanded its market. Barkaiztegi cider can now be enjoyed in gastronomic societies, restaurants and country eateries around San Sebastián. Some of the apples used come from its own orchards, supplemented with apples from elsewhere, from Galicia or France. It currently produces close to 200,000 litres of cider a year.
Specialities
Salt cod chunks, salt cod in green sauce, stuffed asparagus and T-bone steak (txuleta).
Eight generations have made cider at the Barkaiztegi farmhouse since 1680. It bottles Barkaiztegi Euskal Sagardoa, including a Premium version, and sells it by the case in its online shop.

As well as a cider house, it’s a cider maker: it makes its own cider, and what’s served at the table comes from its own cellar.

Quality labels
- DO Euskal Sagardoa Designation of origin for natural Basque cider: only apples of local varieties grown in Álava, Bizkaia, Gipuzkoa and the French Basque Country. The seal goes on each bottle, not on the cider maker.
- Gorenak Quality mark of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa for agri-food products from Gipuzkoa.
