About Petritegi cider house
Although the Otaño family was already making cider for its own use in the early 20th century, it only began selling it in 1940. What started as a sideline to livestock farming grew in importance until the family made it their main business. The premises have changed dramatically: what began as a ground-floor space for making cider is now a separate building given over entirely to the restaurant and txotx (drinking cider straight from the cask). They produce around 600,000 litres of cider a year.
Petritegi makes cider under the Euskal Sagardoa Designation of Origin (DO), including organic and premium ciders fermented with yeasts taken from its own apple trees, and a wide range besides: sparkling ciders, alcohol-free cider, cider vermouth, vinegar and apple juice. It has an online shop and runs tours and tastings in the cellar.

Petritegi’s own house cider
